Recruiter Texting Candidates

Rules Recruiters must follow when sending text SMS to the candidates:

Timing is most important in recruiting. Sending text message to candidates can make each touch more personalize. Etiquette to be used for texting the candidate is use of common sense. ​

Once you and your candidate have each other’s contact number stored in your phones, this level of mutual trust should be established.  It is usually best to ask permission to text once you have made a verbal discussion with the candidate.

Do ask about If he has any preferences for time.

After texting, do not leave the candidate wondering whether they should expect additional follow-up or not from you.

Interview flow must be steered towards a conversation rather than a rigid question-answer round. This will lead to avoid rehearsed answers from the candidate. Open ended questions give an opportunity to the candidate to think on the spot and speak freely too, allowing their personality to show up.

Texting sessions must be conducted within normal business hours as per the time zone of the candidates.  Be professional in your texts.

Avoid internet jargon, avoid emojis and smileys, never respond to a text with “K”

Be Prompt with replies to your candidate’s query.

No matter how busy as a recruiter you are, your job is finally about efficient hiring and managing expectations.

Recruiter must proceed with confidence with details about offerings for the candidate and must use natural recruiting voice.
