How to Recognise a Great Resume in Two Minutes?
Check Formatting of CV:
A good candidate is always aware that their resume is the first part for them to be introduced to any company. The first thing that as a recruiter you must grab is how clear and well-formatted the CV is. The name and contact details should be on top so that there is no need to search phone number to call them. Their employment history must be in reverse chronological order in Resume.
The good candidate knows how to articulate themselves more concisely, hence number of pages over three is not good. The font used in CV should be professional and easy on the eye. So, start the selection process by checking the candidates address if it is included in the CV. A good candidate will understand time constraint to commute, hence a great resume will show their geographic suitability clearly.
Last two role titles must be checked:
The last two roles must be the richest in content, must be with more details about responsibilities and achievements. Hence quickly scan these two roles to understand that they are going into the “interview” or “reject” pile.
Check Job continuity and vintage of employee:
Gaps over 6 months in employment are warning signs. A great CV mostly will not have any big career gaps. Parallelly more than two or 3 jobs in 12 to 24 months can also be red flag.
Educational Qualification:
Most of the job roles require minimum level of education, in good CV, the candidates educational background should be clearly mentioned including university, discipline and year.
Content of CV:
If there are spelling mistakes and poor sentence construction, chances are that the rest of the CV won’t be impressive too. Still it’s very difficult to really tell what a candidate is really like from a short document, there are multiple clues that point to a great Resume, and thus to a great candidate too.
